Vincent S. is a contemporary Kerala State Award–winning artist and writer residing in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, where his life and work are situated. He founded Ananda Kalakendram in 1990, which became one of the pioneering spaces for rural art education in South India.
Born on November 24, 1956, Vincent has spent decades cultivating his talent in both visual art and literary works. His formal education began at Christian College, Kattakada, and University College, Thiruvananthapuram, followed by a BFA in Painting from the College of Fine Arts, Thiruvananthapuram (1988), and later an MFA from the same institution in 2021.
As a visual artist, Vincent is a prolific exhibitor. His solo exhibitions include shows at Vailoppilli Sanskriti Bhavan, Thiruvananthapuram (2020), the Museum Art Gallery, Thiruvananthapuram (2019), and the Kerala Lalithakala Academi Art Gallery (2018), as well as multiple exhibitions at Lal Village Art Gallery (2015, 2018). Earlier in his career, he exhibited at Kovalam Beach Gallery (1989, 1990), Bangalore Art Gallery (1990), and in a Kerala Lalithakala Academi–sponsored exhibition in 1989.
His group exhibitions include the State Exhibition of Art at Sidhartha Foundation, Kollam (2016, 2018, 2019), the Kerala Lalithakala Academi State Exhibition of Art (2015–16, 2017–18), the Parambara Artists Group exhibition, Thiruvananthapuram (2019), and an All India Art Exhibition in Kochi (1989).
Beyond exhibitions, Vincent actively participates in the larger artistic community through art camps such as the Layam Artists’ Camp by Kerala Lalithakala Academy, Thrissur (2019); National Art Camp on ceramic and paper making, Thiruvananthapuram (2017); Kerala Lalithakala Academy State Camps at Kilimanur (2016, 2017); and the P. Smrithyi Painting Camp, Kanhangad (2016).
In the field of literature, Vincent is a published author. His literary contributions include the poetry collection Yathrakaran, the short story collection Priyappetta Alphey, and the poetry volume Rahayam + Parasyam = Sathyam (2019).
